- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F / 45°C)
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil (plus extra for pan)
- 2 cups crushed tomatoes
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (for sauce)
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil leaves (optional)
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1–1 1/2 hours until doubled.
- Generously oil a 9×13-inch baking pan. Press dough evenly into the pan.
- Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a bowl, mix crushed tomatoes, garlic, oregano, and salt.
- Spread sauce evenly over the dough. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan on top.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes until crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
- Cool slightly, garnish with fresh basil if desired, slice into squares, and serve.
Notes
- Use plenty of olive oil in the pan for a crispy bottom crust.
- Allow proper rising time for a light, airy texture.
- Add pepperoni or anchovies for variation.
- Let pizza rest 5–10 minutes before slicing.
