Description

A spooky twist on classic apple cider, this Poisoned Apple Cider is a fun Halloween drink with dark color, warm spices, and a touch of sweetness. Can be served warm or chilled.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups apple cider
  • 1/4 cup pomegranate juice (for deep red color)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 2 star anise
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 drop black food coloring (optional, for spooky effect)
  • Optional garnish: apple slices, cinnamon sticks, or dry ice for smoky presentation

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine apple cider, pomegranate juice, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, nutmeg, and allspice.
  2. Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 20 minutes to allow flavors to infuse.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and optional black food coloring.
  4. Strain out spices and pour cider into mugs.
  5. Garnish with apple slices or a cinnamon stick. For extra spooky effect, add a small piece of dry ice to each serving (for adults only, and do not consume the ice directly).

Notes

  • This recipe can be made non-alcoholic for kids or spiked with dark rum or bourbon for adults.
  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
  • Best served warm but can also be chilled and served over ice.
