Description
A spooky twist on classic apple cider, this Poisoned Apple Cider is a fun Halloween drink with dark color, warm spices, and a touch of sweetness. Can be served warm or chilled.
Ingredients
- 6 cups apple cider
- 1/4 cup pomegranate juice (for deep red color)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 4 whole cloves
- 2 star anise
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 drop black food coloring (optional, for spooky effect)
- Optional garnish: apple slices, cinnamon sticks, or dry ice for smoky presentation
Instructions
- In a large pot, combine apple cider, pomegranate juice, brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, nutmeg, and allspice.
- Bring to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 20 minutes to allow flavors to infuse.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and optional black food coloring.
- Strain out spices and pour cider into mugs.
- Garnish with apple slices or a cinnamon stick. For extra spooky effect, add a small piece of dry ice to each serving (for adults only, and do not consume the ice directly).
Notes
- This recipe can be made non-alcoholic for kids or spiked with dark rum or bourbon for adults.
- Adjust sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
- Best served warm but can also be chilled and served over ice.
