Description

A hearty Italian-inspired pasta dish made with savory Italian sausage, tender bow tie pasta, and a rich tomato-based sauce finished with herbs and Parmesan cheese.


Ingredients

  • 12 oz bow tie (farfalle) pasta
  • 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped


Instructions

  1. Cook the bow tie pasta in salted boiling water according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat and brown the Italian sausage, breaking it into crumbles.
  3. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  4. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper; simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Stir in the heavy cream and simmer for another 2 minutes.
  7. Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss until evenly coated.
  8. Serve hot topped with Parmesan cheese and fresh herbs.

  • You can use spicy or mild Italian sausage based on preference.
  • Substitute cream with milk for a lighter sauce.
