Description
Italian-style hot chocolate is thick, rich, and intensely chocolatey, made with real dark chocolate and lightly thickened for a luxurious café-style drink.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole milk
- 4 oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa), finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and cocoa powder.
- Add a few tablespoons of cold milk and whisk until smooth.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, add remaining milk and sugar.
- Heat until warm but not boiling.
- Whisk in the cornstarch mixture.
- Add chopped dark chocolate and salt.
- Cook, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted and mixture thickens.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract if using.
- Pour into cups and serve hot.
Notes
- Stir constantly to prevent lumps.
- Use high-quality chocolate for authentic flavor.
- Adjust thickness with more or less cornstarch.
