Description

Italian-style hot chocolate is thick, rich, and intensely chocolatey, made with real dark chocolate and lightly thickened for a luxurious café-style drink.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 4 oz dark chocolate (70% cocoa), finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • Pinch of salt


Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and cocoa powder.
  2. Add a few tablespoons of cold milk and whisk until smooth.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, add remaining milk and sugar.
  4. Heat until warm but not boiling.
  5. Whisk in the cornstarch mixture.
  6. Add chopped dark chocolate and salt.
  7. Cook, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted and mixture thickens.
  8. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract if using.
  9. Pour into cups and serve hot.
