Description
- A sweet, savory, and slightly spicy gluten-free version of the famous General Tso sauce, perfect for chicken, tofu, or vegetables.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup low-sodium gluten-free soy sauce (or tamari)
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup gluten-free hoisin sauce
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 1–2 teaspoons chili garlic sauce (or to taste)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and broth until smooth.
- Stir in minced garlic, grated ginger, and chili garlic sauce.
- In another small bowl, whisk cornstarch with cold water to make a slurry.
- Pour the sauce mixture into a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- Slowly whisk in the cornstarch slurry. Cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens (about 2–3 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in sesame oil. Serve warm with chicken, tofu, or vegetables.
Notes
- Adjust sweetness or spiciness by adding more sugar or chili garlic sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.
