Ingredients
- 3 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil (for frying)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
Instructions
- Peel and core apples, then slice into 1/4-inch thick rings.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk milk, egg, and vanilla until combined.
- Gradually mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients until a smooth batter forms.
- Heat oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Dip apple rings into batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully place into hot oil.
- Fry for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Toss fried apple rings in cinnamon sugar while warm.
- Serve immediately, optionally with caramel or vanilla ice cream.
