Description

Easy Apple Crisp with Cake Mix is a warm, comforting dessert featuring tender cinnamon-spiced apples topped with a buttery, golden cake mix crumble. With only a few ingredients, this quick and foolproof recipe delivers all the cozy flavors of homemade apple crisp — with half the effort!

Ingredients

  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow or spice cake mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
  • Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare apples: In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and lemon juice. Toss well to coat evenly. Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared dish.
  3. Add cake mix topping: Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apples. Do not mix.
  4. Drizzle the melted butter evenly over the top of the cake mix, ensuring most of it gets moistened. Sprinkle with chopped nuts if using.
  5. Bake: Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbly around the edges.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Use a spice cake mix for an extra layer of fall flavor.
  • For added richness, drizzle caramel sauce over the top before serving.
  • If your topping looks too dry, add a few extra tablespoons of melted butter halfway through baking.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days; reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
