Description

A rich and indulgent mousse combining the deep flavors of coffee and chocolate, creating a smooth and airy dessert perfect for coffee and chocolate lovers.

Ingredients

  • 200 g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 3 tbsp brewed strong coffee or espresso
  • 3 large eggs, separated
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream, chilled
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Whipped cream and chocolate shavings, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate with the coffee in a heatproof bowl set over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) until smooth. Let it cool slightly.
  2. Whisk egg yolks into the melted chocolate until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites with a pinch of salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and continue to beat until stiff peaks form.
  4. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  5. Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture, followed by the beaten egg whites, folding carefully to maintain the airy texture.
  6. Spoon mousse into serving glasses and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
  7. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings before serving.

Notes

  • Use high-quality dark chocolate for the best flavor.
  • Ensure the chocolate mixture is not too hot before adding egg yolks, to prevent curdling.
  • For a boozy twist, add a splash of coffee liqueur such as Kahlúa.
  • This mousse contains raw eggs—use pasteurized eggs if concerned about food safety.
