Description

A sweet and crunchy treat made with layers of saltine crackers, buttery caramel, cinnamon-sugar, and chocolate. This churro-inspired twist on classic saltine toffee is irresistible and perfect for gifting or snacking.


Ingredients

  • 40 saltine crackers (about 1 sleeve)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Pinch of salt


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and arrange saltine crackers in a single layer.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  3. Pour caramel mixture evenly over crackers, spreading with a spatula if needed.
  4. Bake for 5 minutes, until bubbly.
  5. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle chocolate chips over the top. Let sit for 2 minutes, then spread into an even layer.
  6. Mix cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl, then sprinkle evenly over the melted chocolate.
  7. Let cool completely at room temperature or refrigerate until set.
  8. Break into pieces and enjoy.

Notes

  • White or dark chocolate can be used instead of semi-sweet.
