Description
Flaky puff pastry filled with caramelized apples and drizzled with caramel sauce for a quick and delicious fall dessert.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup caramel sauce (plus more for drizzling)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla. Cook for 5-6 minutes until apples are tender and caramelized.
- Remove from heat and stir in 1/4 cup caramel sauce. Let mixture cool slightly.
- Roll out puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Cut into 4 squares.
- Spoon apple mixture into the center of each square. Fold over to form a triangle or rectangle and press edges with a fork to seal.
- Brush tops with egg wash and place on prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes, until golden brown and puffed.
- Drizzle with extra caramel sauce before serving.
Notes
- Best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- You can prepare the apple filling ahead of time and store in the fridge for up to 2 days.
