Description
Browned butter maple tarts are rich, elegant desserts featuring nutty brown butter blended with pure maple syrup in a silky custard filling baked inside crisp tart shells.
Ingredients
- 6 small tart shells (store-bought or homemade)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup pure maple syrup
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F).
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and cook until browned and nutty; remove from heat and cool slightly.
- In a bowl, whisk together maple syrup, eggs, heavy cream, vanilla extract, salt, and flour.
- Slowly whisk the browned butter into the maple mixture.
- Pour filling evenly into tart shells.
- Place tarts on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 22–25 minutes until the centers are just set.
- Cool completely before serving.
Notes
- Do not overbake or filling will lose its creamy texture.
- Use real maple syrup, not pancake syrup.
- Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
