Description

Browned butter maple tarts are rich, elegant desserts featuring nutty brown butter blended with pure maple syrup in a silky custard filling baked inside crisp tart shells.

Ingredients

  • 6 small tart shells (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F).
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and cook until browned and nutty; remove from heat and cool slightly.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together maple syrup, eggs, heavy cream, vanilla extract, salt, and flour.
  4. Slowly whisk the browned butter into the maple mixture.
  5. Pour filling evenly into tart shells.
  6. Place tarts on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 22–25 minutes until the centers are just set.
  8. Cool completely before serving.

Notes

  • Do not overbake or filling will lose its creamy texture.
  • Use real maple syrup, not pancake syrup.
  • Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
