Description

This Banana Bread (Classic + Chocolate Chip) is soft, moist, and full of sweet banana flavor with a hint of vanilla. The addition of chocolate chips makes it extra indulgent while keeping that classic homemade taste — perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed (about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) sour cream or plain yogurt
  • 3/4 cup (130g) semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional: extra for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add mashed bananas, eggs, and vanilla extract; mix until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
  5. Add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring just until combined — do not overmix.
  6. Fold in sour cream and chocolate chips.
  7. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top. Sprinkle extra chocolate chips on top if desired.
  8. Bake for 55–65 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean (a few moist crumbs are fine).
  9. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

  • Use overripe bananas with brown spots for the best flavor and moisture.
  • For a nutty variation, add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans.
  • This banana bread freezes well for up to 2 months; thaw at room temperature before serving.
  • For a richer flavor, use browned butter instead of regular melted butter.
